Treatment of Overweighed Females with Super Hi -Sol
: Double Blind, Ramdomized Control Trial in Thailand. |

In order to improve the ambiguous effect of hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in slimming body figure, HCA from the fruit of Garcinia atroviridis was extracted with a proprietary technique and incorporated into a formulation containing 70% HCA in the form of water-soluble calcium salt. This formulation (patented in Thailand as Super-Hi-Sol) was packed in sachets, each containing 1.65 g of the formulation (equivalent to 1.15 g of HCA ). For the clinical trial treatment of overweighed females, one sachet was dissolved in water (200 ml.) and taken before meal.
Forty-four obese females with a body mass index of above 25 kg/m 2 were randomized into two groups. Group 1 consisted of 23 females with the mean (+ SEM) age of 40.0 + 2 yr; they received combined dietary treatment and 1 sachet before meal, three times daily for 2 month. Group 2 consisted of 19 females with the mean (+ SEM) age of 35.6 + 1.8 yr; they received placebo and dietary treatment i.e., 1000 cal/day, for 2 mo. The mean (+ SEM) body weights before treatment in both groups were 69.0 + 1.2 and 65.5 + 1.4 kg respectively. Group 1 lost significantly more weight and at a greater rate than Group 2 throughout the study. The decrease in their body weight was due to the loss of their fat store evidenced by the significant decrease in the triceps, biceps, subscapular and suprailiac skin fold thickness. The waist, hip and mid-arm circumference were significantly decreased only in Group 1. In Group 1, their serum cholesterol, triglyceride, uric acid and blood glucose levels before treatment were within normal limit and there was no significant change in these parameters during treatment. This leads us to conclude that this formulation is a safe and effective agent in slimming body figure of overweighed females. For the long term treatment of obesity, however, further investigation is needed.

In order to evaluate the effectiveness of Super Hi-Sol (70% hydroxycitric acid in the form of water-soluble calcium salt ) in slimming body figure, sachets containing 1.65 g of Super Hi-Sol ( equivalent to 1.15 g of hydroxycitric acid ) were given to 41 female volunteers, aged 20-30 years, with a body mass index above 18 kg/m 2 . One sachet was dissolved in water (200 ml ) and taken before meal. During a 9 weeks effectiveness evaluation program, the sachets were taken twice a day by the volunteers weighing not more than 60 kg, and three times a day by those weighing more than 60 kg. All volunteers were requested to take exercise once a week.
At the end of the evaluation program, the averaged measurement in their body parts and composition were significantly decreased : in body weight (3.6%), body mass index (3.6%), body fat (5.5%), left mid-arm circumference (7.7% ), right mid-arm circumference (6.9%) chest circumstance (2.6%), beneath-chest circumference (3.6%), waist circumference (4.1%), abdomen circumference (4.3%), hip circumference (5.2%), left mid-leg circumference (4.5%) and right mid-leg circumference 5.5%).
No obvious side effects or unpleasant symptoms were observed in all volunteers. This leads us to conclude that Super Hi-Sol is a safe and effective agent in slimming body figures.
