GM–1 |
| |
GM-1 is a natural substance isolated from the fruit hull of the mangosteen, a popular edible fruit found in Thailand. Over ten years of extensive research have shown that GM-1 possesses the following “4 A” properties: |
| |
| |
1. Antibacterial |
| |
GM–1 inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, both normal and antibiotic-resistant strains. The minimal inhibitory concentration to S.aureus is 0.98 microgram/ milliliter, GM–1 was found to effectively kill the bacteria. |
| |
2. Anti–inflammatory |
| |
GM-1 exhibits anti-inflammatory activity three times that of aspirin in all experimental models. The anti-inflammatory activity was found to be caused by the inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis, interaction with some mediators, interference with leukocytic mobilization as well as with connective tissue proliferation. |
| |
3. Anti–oxidant |
| |
GM–1 is a good antioxidant. In a comparative study, GM–1 exhibited activity equivalent to Vitamin E. |
| |
4. Astringent |
| |
GM–1, when incorporated into a cream, exhibits astringent properties. It helps heal open wounds and shrinks the pores on facial skin, leaving skin that feels much smoother. |

GM–1 is a naturally-occurring substance found in the aril of the mangosteen, a fruit that has been consumed by millions of people for centuries, without any reported undesirable effects. In addition, systemic toxicological evaluation including chronic, sub-chronic, acute and sub-acute toxicity, skin sensitization test, patch test and Ames' test confirm that GM–1 is safe to use. |
